FurnSERVICE has launched a report that explores how Circular Business Models (CBMs) are emerging across European manufacturing industries, with a particular focus on servitization, meaning the shift from selling products to offering integrated product-service systems.
This transformation is presented as a strategic response to sustainability challenges, aiming to reduce waste, extend product lifespans, and optimize resource efficiency. Servitization is not only an economic opportunity but also a key enabler of the circular economy, as it encourages companies to prioritize durability, maintenance, and reuse over one-off sales.
The document focuses primarily on the furniture sector, which is the main target of the project. In this context, servitization is reshaping traditional business models through initiatives such as buy-back programs, repair services, rental schemes, and mediated marketplaces for second-hand furniture. However, the report also examines other industries, including automotive, packaging, textile and fashion, and appliances and electronics.
To conclude, the report offers concrete examples of servitization as a transformative force that aligns business competitiveness with environmental responsibility, ranging from IKEA’s Circular Hub to Suber’s regenerative approach.
