After examining how servitization is reshaping the automotive and fashion industries, it is now time to explore its evolution within the furniture sector.
Furniture may appear more static and durable than cars or clothing, yet the sector is undergoing a profound transformation. Traditionally shaped by linear production models and long replacement cycles, the industry is now facing increasing pressure to reduce resource consumption, extend product lifespans, and comply with emerging EU requirements on durability, reparability, and traceability.
Following the transformation already underway in the automotive sector, the fashion and textile industry is experiencing its own shift toward servitization, a turning point for a field long characterised by fast turnover, intensive resource use, and a significant environmental footprint.
In its Report on Current and Emerging Circular Business Models in EU Industries, FurnSERVICE highlights the central role of servitization in transforming manufacturing companies. Firms are increasingly shifting from simply selling products to offering integrated product–service systems that deliver value throughout the entire lifecycle of the product. But how does this principle translate across different manufacturing sectors?
FurnSERVICE has released a new report based on its recent survey assessing the knowledge, adoption and readiness of EU furniture companies to implement circular business models and practices. The survey collected data from 46 companies across 7 European countries, providing an updated picture of how firms understand and approach circularity.
